A community Council is a group of elected volunteers who represent the interests of their area to Moray Council and other public bodies. A community council is your local voice.

 What is a Community Council?

 What we do?

The community council works with other groups to make the best use of limited funding for the improvement and development of Forres. Where possible working with the Moray Council to achieve this and help the Council focus on our priorities.

Chairman

I first joined the community Council back in October 2000 as I wanted to make a difference. Forres is a Fantastic place to live and I want to ensure that it is a lovely place to grow up in for our young people with opportunities so that they don't have to move away to get good jobs and careers.

I moved to Forres from Elgin in 1991 and haven't left. I have 4 fabulous daughters, who I lover very much. I have been medically retired since 2017. I have some spinal injuries, and I am also losing my sight, but I try not to let it define me. I got involved with the Community Council after being a Patient Representative and I would inform the CC about updates from the health centre. I enjoy being a member of the Community Council bringing issue to the attention of our locally elected Councillors and they update us on anything that relates to Forres that has been going on through Moray Council.

I joined Forres Community Council to help champion local voices and needs, and to channel ideas for keeping the great things about living in Forres while addressing problems that affect local people and our environment. I am keen to hear about the diverse views and experiences of Forres residents, whether you consider yourself mainstream or a minority. I am interested in many local issues including family and maternity services, youth and school facilities, housing, social care, mental health, nature and climate change, access to green spaces and safe routes around town, music and culture, and community participation and collaboration.

I came to Forres over 20 years ago and thought it was a great place to live and I joined the Forres Community Council to help keep it that way.

I Joined the Forres Community Council as I am interested in local politics and saw this as a starting point for my political career, over my first term as a councillor I hope to not just be a voice for the young people in the community but for all generations in Forres and striving to make a difference in the Community.

I have only recently joined the community council and so far I have very much enjoyed being a part of it as I have had the opportunity to have my say on important matters in Forres. I have always loved living in Forres and want to do the best I can to make it an enjoyable place for others to live.

Community Councillor

I moved to Forres in July 2024, after 35 years in and around Edinburgh, although I grew up in Inverness and have family connections to Nairn, Forres, Alves and Duffus. I love the laid back feel to Forres and its lovely historic town centre and parks whilst it has bust community groups activity. I joined the community council to make a contribution to the wider community if I can.

As a Forres resident living in the Fairly new Knockomie Development, I am hoping that as the community grows that I can listen to their needs and find a way forward to ensure that their voices can play a vital part in the shaping of the towns future.
